Jennifer Johnson, 38,
a breast cancer survivor
and the executive director
of Young Survival Coalition
(YSC) of Kansas City,
Missouri*
Her initial diagnosis
“ I faced breast cancer at
27, when I was five months
pregnant, I was just getting
my career and family
going, and then my entire
life changed. It felt like
I was putting on boxing
gloves to fight it— facing my
mortality, facing life— and I
wanted life* I no longer fear
getting older because it's
one more year I’m here.”
Her current diagnosis
“ My oncologist released me
from his care when I hit the
10-year cancer-free mark.
It’s a little frightening
to be on my own— but
also liberating. And I feel
blessed to be healthy
especially for my kids,
Parker, 10, and Emma, 7,
as well as for my husband
of 15 years, Matt.”
Her job
“ Survivors each
have their own unique
story, and to see them
boldly facing their cancer is
personally inspiring. ItTs a
great gift to be able to help
them, but the hardest part
is knowing that some of
them will pass away from
this disease.”
Her style
“I do love
being a girly-girl— there’s
something about wearing
heels or a dress that makes
me feel just a little fancier.
But bottom line, I want my
clothing to reflect strength
and confidence.”
